Tuna is one of the easiest ingredients to work with today. It’s a great source of protein and is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. While you might not eat tuna every day, there are lots of ways to mix it up and make it a little more interesting. These tasty recipes aren’t just easy to make but are incredibly affordable too!

1. Simple Tuna Pasta

An easy dish with a lot of taste. This tuna pasta dish is healthy and very quick to make.

Cooking Time: 20 minutes.
Yield: 2 servings.

Ingredients:

  • 200g Tinned Tuna in Brine
  • 200g of Penne Pasta
  • 2 Teaspoons of Olive Oil
  • 100g of Ricotta Cheese
  • 150g of Tinned Sweetcorn
  • 150g of Vine Tomatoes
  • 25g of Chopped Basil
  • 1 Sliced Leek

Directions:

  1. Fill a large pan with water and penne pasta, and leaks. Add a generous amount of salt and cook until soft or around 8 minutes.
  2. In a frying pan, heat the oil on a medium heat and add the tomatoes. Lightly fry the tomatoes until they are soft, 3-5 minutes.
  3. Drain the sweetcorn and add to the frying pan. Cook the sauce and sweetcorn on a medium heat for 2-4 minutes.
  4. Remove the leeks and pasta from the pan and add to the tomatoes for 3 minutes.
  5. Remove the frying pan from the heat and carefully add the contents to a large serving bowl. Mix in the tuna, ricotta, and basil.
  6. Finish with a dash of pepper on the top.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tablespoons of Crushed Chili Flakes
  • 2 Teaspoons of Paprika
  • 2 Teaspoons of Cayenne Pepper
  • 2 Sliced Jalapeno Peppers
  • 4 Halved Tomatoes
  • 6 Pitted and Halved Olives
  • ¾ Sliced Red Onion
  • 4 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
  • 2 Fresh Tuna Steaks
  • 25g of Chopped Parsley
  • 2 Tablespoons of Red Wine Vinegar
  • 4 Slices of Thick-Cut Bread

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, mix red onions, 1 tablespoons of olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, and olives.
  2. On each plate, lay out the halved tomatoes and spoon the onion mixture on top.
  3. Place the tuna steaks in a frying pan and drizzle the remaining olive oil, crushed chili flakes, paprika, and cayenne pepper over the top.
  4. Gently heat the pan and sear the steaks for 2-4 minutes on each side (longer if you prefer well-done tuna steaks). Leave to rest for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Once rested, place the tuna on the plates with the tomato and onion mixture and serve with the buttered bread.
  6. Top with the sliced peppers to finish.

Ingredients:

  • 6 Tuna Steaks
  • 25ml of Lemon Juice
  • 4 Teaspoons of Minced Garlic
  • 2 Diced Onions
  • 2 Teaspoons of Cayenne Pepper
  • 4 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
  • 2 Teaspoons of Salt
  • 2 Teaspoons of Pepper
  • 75g of Chopped Coriander
  • 3 Teaspoons of Ground Cumin
  • 2 Teaspoons of Crushed Black Peppercorns

Directions:

  1. Preheat the grill.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine cayenne pepper, onions, garlic, ¾ of the coriander, lemon juice, oil, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create a marinade.
  3. Dip the tuna steak in the marinade and leave there to soak in for 20-30 minutes.
  4. Take a grill pan and drizzle cooking oil over it.
  5. When the steaks are marinated, put them on the grill and add a dash of hot sauce. Cook for 5 minutes or longer for medium and well-done steaks. Flip over and cook again for 5 minutes.
  6. Remove the tuna steaks from the grill and top with the remaining coriander.

Ingredients:

  • 450g of Tinned Drained Tuna
  • 500g of Peeled White Potatoes
  • 50g of Finely Chopped Dill
  • 6 Sliced Spring Onions
  • 25g of Chopped Chives
  • 125g of Premade Breadcrumbs
  • 3 Beaten Eggs
  • 125g of Salted Butter
  • 125g of Olive Oil
  • 350g of Long Grain Rice

Directions:

  1. Place the potatoes in a pan of water and boil. Par-cook the potatoes until they are soft, for around 8-10 minutes on a medium heat.
  2. Once cooked, drain the potatoes and mash them thoroughly.
  3. Combine the eggs, tuna, chives, onions, potatoes, spring onions, and dill in a large bowl.
  4. Shape into individual patties and apply the breadcrumbs to each patty.
  5. In a large frying pan, gently heat the cooking oil and butter. Place each fish cake into the pan and gently fry until they turn golden.
  6. Remove the fish cakes from the heat and drain the excess oil from them.
  7. Fill a pan with rice and water. Gently bring the water to a boil and cook the rice for 8-12 minutes or until cooked through. Drain and serve with the fish cakes.

5. Tomato and Tuna Casserole

Cooking Time: 45-55 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 500g of Tinned Tomatoes
  • 500g of Tuna Steaks
  • 200g of Ricotta Cheese
  • 750g of Pasta Shells
  • 50g of Unsalted Butter
  • 150g of Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 50g of Chopped Basil

Directions:

  1. Put the butter into a large pot and gently heat on a low-to-medium heat. Pour in the tinned tomatoes and juice.
  2. Allow the sauce to cook for 20-25 minutes.
  3. Add pasta to a large cooking pot and pour in cold water. Mix in a generous amount of salt and bring to a boil. Cook until the pasta for 2-5 minutes.
  4. Remove the pasta from the heat, drain, and pour back into the empty pan.
  5. In a frying pan, sear the tuna steak for 3-5 minutes on each side. Remove the steak from the heat and set it to one side to rest.
  6. Once cooled, slice the steaks into smaller strips and stir into the tomato sauce. Mix in ricotta cheese and remove from the heat.
  7. Carefully mix the tomato sauce with the pasta until it’s combined well. Sprinkle in the basil, salt, and pepper.

  • 550g of Macaroni
  • 200g of Tinned Flaked Tuna
  • 2 Diced Red Onions
  • 400g of Chopped Broccoli
  • 45g of Unsalted Butter
  • 4 Tablespoons of White Wine Vinegar
  • 550ml of Milk
  • 2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
  • 45g of Flour
  • 4 Teaspoons of English Mustard
  • 50g of Crumbled Feta Cheese

  7. In a saucepan, gently heat butter on a low-to-medium setting. Stir in flour to create a roux-like texture and cook for 2 minutes.
  8. Remove from the heat and add the milk, gradually. Stir thoroughly to avoid a lumpy mixture; continue to do this until all the milk has been added. It will start to create a sauce.
  9. Place the saucepan back on the heat, constantly stir as it comes to a boil. Stir the sauce until it thickens, then remove the heat and add the cheddar cheese and mustard. Gently stir until the cheese melts.
  10. Remove the onions from the vinegar marinade and mix into the sauce. Stir in the pasta, broccoli, bacon, tuna, and parsley.
  11. Pour the mixture into a large oven-ready dish and sprinkle with feta and more cheddar cheese. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes.
  12. Lightly toast the garlic bread in the oven for 4-6 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 100g of Flaky Tinned Tuna
  • ¼ Diced Red Onion
  • 2 Tablespoons of Dijon Mustard
  • 1 Sliced Tomato
  • 3 Tablespoons of Mayonnaise
  • 25ml of Greek Yogurt
  • 2 Slices of Thick-Cut White Bread
  • 25g of Mozzarella Cheese
  • 25g of Mature Cheddar Cheese

  4. On a deep baking tray, line the tortilla wraps and carefully spoon in the tuna mixture. Sprinkle cheese over the top and bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes.

This is a classic dish that most people will enjoy.

Cooking Time: 40 minutes.
Yield: 2 servings.

Ingredients:

  • 100g of Mixed Chopped Herbs (Coriander, Parsley, & Basil)
  • 250g of Tinned Tuna
  • 150g of Penne Pasta
  • 200g of Diced Chicken Breast
  • 2 Teaspoons of Paprika
  • 50g of Peas
  • 50g of Diced Carrots
  • 250g of Mature White Cheese
  • 1 Pre-Made Jar of Pasta Cheese Sauce

Directions:

  1. In a skillet, place the diced chicken and brown. This should take around 5-7 minutes, depending on the thickness of the chicken pieces. Add the paprika.
  2. Remove the chicken from the heat and leave to rest.
  3. Put the penne pasta in a deep cooking pan and boil with water for 3 minutes. Drain and leave to one side.
  4. Drain the tuna and mix in with the pasta. Stir in the chicken and herbs and combine well.
  5. Pour the pasta mixture into a greased oven-safe dish and mix in the peas and carrots.
  6. Pour the pre-made cheese sauce over the top, sprinkle cheese on, and bake in the oven for 30 minutes.

This is a wonderful recipe and is perfect as a side or main meal.

Cooking Time: 10 minutes.
Yield: 4 servings.

Ingredients:

  • 200g of Drained Tinned Tuna
  • 150g of Long Grain Rice
  • 4 Tablespoons of Sunflower Oil
  • 1 Lime Quartered
  • 2 Lightly Beaten Eggs
  • 1 Diced Red Onion
  • 2 Crushed Chilies
  • 2 Birds Eye Chili Peppers
  • 2 Tablespoons of Minced Garlic
  • 2 Teaspoons of Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons of Fish Sauce
  • 125ml of Oyster Sauce

Directions:

  1. In a pan, gently cook the rice for 4 minutes. Remove and drain the rice and set aside.
  2. Pour 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet pan and gently heat. Mix in the eggs and cook for 1 minute, before flipping over and cooking for another 1 minute.
  3. Once cooked, remove the omelette, and put to one side for a moment.
  4. Mix oyster sauce, fish sauce, and sugar to create a seasoning sauce in a bowl.
  5. In a frying pan, heat the remaining oil and mix in the garlic and crushed chili peppers. Fry for 2 minutes and stir in the onion. Cook for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Mix in rice and gently fry for 5-6 minutes.
  7. Chop the omelette and add to the rice, along with the tuna. Warm through for 2 minutes and remove from the heat.
  8. Slice the lime into wedges and serve.
